A few years ago, my family took a ski trip to Park City, Utah. During our stay, we were lucky enough to catch the International Ski World Cup at the neighboring Deer Valley Resort. All bundled up in head-to-toe ski gear and armed with a few flasks of vodka to keep us really warm, we were off to enjoy that night’s freestyle festivities.
Upon our arrival to the competition, we crowded in with like-minded ski enthusiasts surrounded by food and drink trucks aplenty. “Hmm…a cup of hot chocolate sound really good right now,” I thought out loud. Within minutes our group had warming hands gently nestling steaming cups ready to be sipped. “Wait!” With the adeptness of a seasoned mixologist, I pulled out my flask, unscrewed its top and poured a generous dram of vodka into my cocoa.
“Ah, yeah…that rocks!”
And with that historic moment, the “Rock Chocolate” was born! A perfect after-dinner or apre ski dessert drink for adults. Add a dollop of liqueur-laden whipping cream, a milk chocolate truffle and some fancy heart-shaped marshmallows for a hot cocktail to rock your winter world!
Boozy Whipping Cream Ingredients:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ tsp. vanilla
- 2 Tbsp. powdered sugar
- 2 – 3 Tbsp. liqueur of choice (we love Bailey’s Irish Cream)
Heart-Shaped Marshmallows Ingredients:
- large marshmallows
- kitchen shears
- heart-shaped petit four cutter
- cooking spray
Rock Chocolate Ingredients:
- 4 cups oat milk (or 1% or 2% milk)
- 3-4, 1.55 oz. bars of chocolate, finely chopped*
- pinch of salt
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 jiggers (6 fluid oz.) of vodka (add 1 shot per mug)
*For a super-duper easy shortcut, substitute 8 Tbsp. or 4 packets of hot cocoa mix (Swiss Miss is our family’s favorite!).
