I discovered the The Novogratz (stars of HGTV’s “Home by Novogratz“) about a year or so ago; an interior design duo, husband and wife team, who also have a flair for fashion and are simultaneously raising seven hip and happy kids…yup, seven. Being the family-oriented and design nerd that I am, Bob and Cortney Novogratz have quickly risen to the top of my “who inspires me” list. Not only are they successful time managers, they are also southern expats living in New York City, whose design point of view is colorful eclectic, one-of-a-kind, vintage-mod cool. My kind of style. I thought I’d share a snippet of their design process and POV – this one emphasizes their quick tips on using color in the home.
Important color notes:
“We’re either really bright, or really white.” – Bob
• Pops of Color – For an all beige room (or house), throw in color via throw pillows, quilts, art, or frames that have pops of color.
“There needs to be some kind of splash of color in your life i think that just helps your soul and also make the place a little more happy at the end of the day.” – Cortney
• Poppy Colors – take chances with vibrant paint colors in kids rooms or on a focal wall.
“Paint’s not a big deal, if you get tired of it, just repaint it.” -Bob
• Trendy Colors – You can always stay in trend by mixing in “new” and “now” colors through paint, pillows or accessories.
“I think people need to take more risks when it comes to color.” – Cortney
